Another Reason Why I Don’t Like Half-Life 2

“See, in a story like the one Half Life 2 attempts to tell, it’s very important that the player character be told fairly early on what they are there for. You need a goal. Your primary carrot, then, is Eli. You are supposed to get to him. He will explain everything.

When you get there, smaller infodump, but he says he’ll tell you more later. This is when he gets kidnapped.

So you fight your way to Eli, again, to find out why you’re here. Now you’re in Nova Prospekt.

He gets teleported away from you by a betrayal.

So… you fight your way to Eli. Again.

And suddenly, the game is over. You have no idea why you’re brought here in the first place, but, quite by accident, you’ve gone and blown up the Citadel.

Act I: Get to Eli.
Act II: Get to Eli.
Act III: Get to Eli.

Act IV (Episode 1): Save the Citadel to save Eli
Act V (Episode 1): Get on a train to Eli

Act VI (Episode 2): Get to Eli.
Act VII (Episode 2): Defend the base after Alyx interrupts Eli who was going to explain everything.
Ending (Episode 2): Eli dies. ”

Yes, the poster went on to say that HL2 is a good game, but the above is the exact reason why I don’t like it.
